Mead is the most ancient type of fermented beverage, thought to pre-date the cultivation of land. Psenkova Cherry Mead is technically a melomel, which means it is made from the typical mead ingredients of honey, water, and yeast, but has the addition of fruit. Melomels are one of the oldest ways to preserve fruit, allowing one to enjoy the taste of Michigan cherries long out of season. The Stelvin screwcap closer ensures that there is no chance of developing flaws, as there is with a cork. If cellared properly in a cool, dark place this mead will continue to mature for over a decade.

Psenkova Cherry Mead is all-natural and hand crafted in small batches by Leelanau County native and award winning winemaker Shawn Walters. The cherry mead is made using only honey from a small Leelanau beekeeper and cherries from century-old family farms in Leelanau County. It was a medal winner at the 2009 Tasters Guild International Wine Competition.

Psenkova Cherry Mead
Lightly sweet and delightfully fresh, this world-class mead from Leelanau County, along with other libations from négociant C. Psenka, are redefining wine in Michigan.
Psenkova Cherry Mead is one of the few meads that should be served chilled, as it brings the acidity of the cherries to the forefront. It pairs well with a variety of dishes; favorites include pork chops, waldorf salad, barbeque, and anything that would be served with Thanksgiving dinner. A tangy cheesecake makes the ideal dessert accompaniment, but we encourage experimentation with new pairings.

Psenkova Cherry Mead in the press:

“So few fermented drinks capture the essence of their ingredients that finding one is cause for celebration, doubly so when those ingredients are local ... Psenkova Cherry Mead bursts with aromas of flowers and earth and time. Far from cloying, a sip starts mildly sweet with a hint of cherry tartness to turn pleasantly dusty toward the end.”
-Detroit Metrotimes, September 2 2009

“Psenkova Cherry Mead is a great example of why this beverage has persisted through the ages. The clean, pure taste of Michigan cherries brings the right amount of tartness to balance the subtle sweetness of the honey, creating a beverage with rare harmony.”
-Real Detroit Weekly, April 22 2009
